Antalya, archeological museum, old city

DAY 12: TUESDAY 2/5/2000

Visited the Antalya museum, wonderful collection which starts with fossils and proceed chronologically  through the stone and Bronze Ages, Hellenistic, Roman and Ottoman Periods. The gallery of the Gods has 15 classical gods from Afrodite to Zeus.

Hadrian's Gate There is also a collection of Christian Icons and pieces of the skull and jaw of St. Nicholas, the original Santa Claus. The collection continues through Ottoman times with costumes, calligraphy and beautiful carpets.
A walking tour to Kaleici ( Old Antalya ), down the slope to what was long ago the Roman Harbour , today it is used for yachts and excursion boats. Old city
Harbour Along the trek down the hill are an assortment of shops from jewellry to carpet, to pottery, to souveniours a shopping paradise.
Many of the old Ottoman houses have been restored and converted into hotels, restaurants and carpet shops. The remainder of the day was time for relaxation, either shopping or swimming by the pool or admiring the superb views of the mediterranean. Tomb
