DAY 19: TUESDAY 9/5/2000
Early start and en route to Ankara and then our return to Istanbul.
Cool but a beautiful sunny day. Lots of snow on Mount Hasan is a beautiful
spectacle until the snow copped mountains and the green bush valley
below. About 300 kms drive through rural countryside, we were able to
catch glimpes of farming life.

Shepherds matching flocks of sheep, workers in the fields and cows by
the side of the road grazing. |
| Midday arrival in Ankara which is the capital of Turkey and centre
of government . First stop at the Mouseleum of Ataturk. This is an extremely
impressive rectangular building with squared columns and a spectacular
view over the city. |
 |
|
Spent several hours hours in the afternoon at the museum of Anatolian
Civilisations which houses an extremely impressive collection of artifacts
from the Hittite, Phrigian, and Assyrian civilisations. |
| A visit to the citadel followed, which allowed us to visit a Bazaar
where the streets were lined with spice stells, copper and iron monges,
Shops selling angora wool, cotton goods and antiquities. |
 |
|
Wondered through the cobbled lanes of the traditional turkish village
and enjoyed a delight of meal in a restaurant which allowed us a birds
eye view of Ankara. In the evenening we caught a flight to Istanbul. |
