Pamukkale, Laodacea,Antalya, seven churches
|
DAY 10: SUNDAY 30/4/2000
Today was a " rest day "- given time to swim , rest or explore the
village at Pamukkale. All enjoyed the " time-out "and those who were
travel feeling travel worn had time to recuperate before we set off over
the mountains to Antalya |
 |
 |
DAY 11: MONDAY 1/5/2000 Left Pamukkale and
heading for Antalya over the Taurus mountains. En route we visited
Laodacea-one of the 7 churches of Asia Minor, mentioned in the book of
Revelation 3:18. Drove through Denizli and then across the mountains where
orchards of apples were in blossom and stopped for a break at the beautiful
Salda Lake. |
| This is a crater Lake with salt water and 184 meters
deep. Today there was a most beautiful mirror reflection of the mountains
in the aqua blue lake. |
 |
 |
Drove through rich agricultural land, through
dusty streets and small villages where there was an abundance of
solar heating panels on the
rooves. |
| A high light of the day was our visit to a nomads
tent made up of brown woven goats' hair. Inside was a surprise. The floor
was covered by beautiful Turkish carpets, a heater burning and handcrafts
hanging on display and a cat sleeping by the fire-just like home!! |
 |
 |
A further drive through the mountains , rugged
rock faces and fertile valleys. Arrived at Antalya mid afternoon. |
| This is the chief city of Turkey's central
mediterranean coast and today is a busy tourist center .It was found in
the 1 st century BC. by Attalus II of Pergamon. |
